September Soybean Scouting: What to Look for With SDS and SCN
Tri-Ag • September 3, 2026

As we move through September, now is an important time to scout soybeans for Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS) and soybean cyst nematode (SCN).

SDS and SCN can occur together, and understanding what is happening below the soil surface can be critical when making decisions for next year's crop.

When scouting, look for:

  • SDS: Yellowing between the veins, leaf scorch, premature leaf drop and characteristic symptoms developing in patches across the field.
  • SCN: Uneven growth, yellowing, stunting and areas of reduced plant vigor. Dig roots and look closely for the small white to yellow females attached to the roots.
  • Pay attention to patterns: Areas of the field with consistent symptoms may tell us more than a single affected plant.

At Tri-Ag Products & Yield Innovations, we're looking beyond the symptoms.

What caused the problem? What is the field telling us? And what can we do differently next year?

Field scouting + soil sampling + proper diagnosis + the right genetics and seed treatment can help build a better plan for 2027.

Don't just scout the symptoms. Scout for the why.
